Lieutenant General Sir T R Copinger-Symes KCB CBE

Deputy Commander Cyber & Specialist Operations Command and Director General Joint Force Development

Tom spent his early career with The Rifles on operations in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan, and in operational and strategy posts at the Permanent Joint Headquarters and Ministry of Defence.

For the past 10 years he has focused on how the Army and Defence can make better use of its data and information, whether in its traditional supporting role, or employed as a weapon in its own right. This has included command at Brigade and Divisional-level and his last role as Director Strategy & Military Digitisation in Defence Digital.

In May 22 he took post as DComd UKStratCom, now Cyber & Specialist Operations Command. He is responsible for overseeing Defence’s Multi Domain Integration programme, as well as a host of other change and capability projects across campaigning, integration and cyber.

Tom is also Colonel Commandant of The Rifles and Honorary Colonel of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry. He is married with two school-age daughters.
